Land-Saving Legacy

Leave-a-legacy-webpage-RedMapleSwpCCNS2Donating funds to save land (or donating land itself) leaves a lasting legacy and enhances our shared quality of life on Cape Cod, which is rooted in the natural environment. If you are interested in donating land, we can direct you to the appropriate land trust. If you are interested in donating funds to advance land conservation, then you can contribute several ways.

Donations can be by check payable to The Compact (mailed to The Compact, P.O. Box 443, Barnstable, MA 02630) or through appreciated securities. For the latter, we can provide the account and routing numbers. The Compact’s federal tax I.D. number is: 04-2925813.

Ways to donate:

1) You can donate instantly online via PayPal to support our land-saving work by clicking HERE.

2)Donate funds to The Compact’s general fund for use at our discretion for land conservation projects. This is the most needed type of contribution.

3) Donate funds to The Compact’s Thomsen Land Fund for Cape Cod, which provides revolving low-interest loans to non-profit land trusts (listed in the links to the left) for buying and preserving land on the Cape.

4) Donate funds to specific land trust acquisition projects. Selected projects are highlighted in our Land Protection Wish List. We will forward any contribution to the local land trust either anonymously or with acknowledgment, based on your preference, to be used solely for that specifically-designated purpose.

5) How to Make a Bequest to The Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, Inc. for the benefit of The Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, Inc.

Leave-a-legacy-webpage-SmithsDockWBarnsSaltMarsh4For some land conservation supporters, a bequest is the most realistic way of making a significant gift to The Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, Inc. You may provide for the The Compact by:
· creating a new will,
· adding a codicil to your present will,
· including The Compact in your revocable trust,
· or designating The Compact as the beneficiary of your retirement plan
or insurance policy.

To ensure that your exact intentions are carried out, wills, codicils, and trusts should be prepared by and with the advice of your attorney. The Executive Director of The Compact is available for additional information on the various methods of designating a bequest to The Compact or for guidance in planning a gift.

A bequest or beneficiary designation to The Compact should be made payable to the “The Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, Inc,” which is the official name. Unless otherwise specified, a bequest to the “The Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, Inc” is interpreted as an unrestricted
donation to The Compact to be used in any way to serve any of its purposes.

To ensure that your bequest is properly directed and credited to The Compact’s Thomsen Land Fund for Cape Cod, rather than to The Compact for
any purpose, it is important that you specify that it be paid to the “The Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, Inc. for the benefit of The Compact’s Thomsen Land Fund for Cape Cod.”

Sample Bequest Form: A general bequest, unrestricted as to purpose:

“I give (____ dollars) or (____ percent of my estate) to The Compact of
Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, Inc., (federal tax I.D. number: 04-2925813),
a Massachusetts charitable corporation having an address at 3239 Main
Street, P.O. Box 443, Barnstable, Massachusetts, for the benefit of The
Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, Inc., and for its general
purposes.”

Sample Bequest Form: An endowment bequest for a specific purpose:

“I give (____ dollars) or (____ percent of my estate) to The Compact of
Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, Inc., (federal tax I.D. number: 04-2925813),
a Massachusetts charitable corporation having an address at 3239 Main
Street, P.O. Box 443, Barnstable, Massachusetts, for the benefit of The
Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, Inc., and for (state the
purpose). If, in the future, in the opinion of The Compact of Cape Cod
Conservation Trusts, Inc., all or part of the income of this fund cannot
be usefully applied to the above purpose (or in the above manner), it may
be used for any purpose within the powers of the The Compact of Cape Cod
Conservation Trusts, Inc. that will most nearly accomplish my wishes and
purposes.”

So that we can help you make sure that your intent will be realized by your provision, we would be grateful if you would mail a copy of the pertinent portion of your estate documents after your plans are finalized to The Compact, P.O. Box 443, Barnstable, MA 02630. We will respect the sensitive and confidential nature of any material that you provide.
